Arizona cacti

I traveled to the Phoenix area to help facilitate a teacher workshop about the Moon last month. I stayed with a couple of awesome friends of mine from grad school (hi Beck and Thijs!) for a few days before the workshop. They have a fabulous pool that we spent the hot summer nights relaxing in, and a bunch of different cacti and succulents. These are a few of my favorites.

Phoenix Desert Botanical Gardens

We had some spare time in Arizona so we spent a few hours at the Phoenix Desert Botanical Gardens. They had a monarch butterfly exhibit, and I got some pictures of all the cactus and desert plants.

Scenic Arizona drive

Once in Arizona, we went on a scenic drive going north on AZ87 out of Scottsdale. As the road curves around through the mountains, it’s absolutely gorgeous. I made this video on my Canon 7D. The song is “That’s What’s Wrong” by Good Old War. The road was a bit bumpy at times, but it was a fun drive!
