Long-time friends

One of the nice things about being back in Austin over Christmas was getting to see people I’ve been friends with for a long time but don’t get to see often. A few of them even let me take pictures of them.

My parents, my brother Matthew, my grandma, my dog Crash, my two cats Kepler and Apollo, and I all gathered at my parents’ house for presents and brunch on Christmas morning. Poor Apollo was terrified of Crash (who was just as afraid of him) and spent most of the time upstairs. Kepler ventured into the action but quickly took refuge under the tree. A great time was had by all (with the possible exception of the cats…).

Thanksgiving dinner!

We had a fabulous Thanksgiving dinner! I tried a new cranberry sauce recipe and it’s amazing! It uses orange peel, freshly-squeezed juice from the orange, cinnamon stick, nutmeg, and cloves, along with the water, sugar, and cranberries. So good! For the turkey, I rubbed softened butter with garlic powder, rosemary, savory, and thyme under the skin and all over the outside of the bird so it was juicy and flavorful inside and had golden brown, crispy skin. I used my mom’s mashed potato recipe and my grandma’s stuffing recipe and they were awesome. Hope yours was just as tasty!

Little Apollo makes an appearance in this one!

4th of July portraits

I spent the 4th of July in Austin with Emily, Sara, and Sara’s boyfriend Kevin. We went to the lake, ate a ton of food, visited my grandma, and watched fireworks over the lake from a parking garage near where I used to work. It was a great day!

On the 4th of July, Sara, Emily, and I headed out to my family’s dock on Lake Austin in the afternoon. In the evening, Sara was playing with the Austin Symphony Band at a park in Round Rock so we went and listened to the band and watched fireworks.
